Reflections on the Hands of Hope Mentoring Workshop

Editor’s Note: Hands of Hope has formed as a branch of Abolition Now, providing mentoring, prayer support and resources to the sexually exploited and those working on the front lines of rescue and restoration. Hands of Hope Mentoring exists to provide support for sexually exploited women that law enforcement, government agencies, advocates and other professionals cannot do as part of their job description. Here is one woman’s perspective of our most recent Hands of Hope Mentoring Workshop, held at Southwest Bible Church:

The Hands of Hope Conference exceeded all of my expectations. The event was well orchestrated from beginning to end. The conference successfully blended spiritual integration and sound mental health tools for the volunteer and professional in a comprehensive manner.  The topic of sex trafficking and the sexually exploited was presented in an articulate and compassionate way. Surprisingly, this was so much more than a training event!

I was so moved by how tenderly the speakers responded to these wounded people. The speaker’s reference toward the women they work with as “Thrivers,” demonstrates a deep sense of value and respect given to each individual.  It was very moving listening to Thrivers share their victories in the healing process. The way males and females are enticed and forced into trafficking is eye opening.  It was clear the mentors who worked with Thrivers are a positive influence in the healing process.

Professionals from the Mental Health community educated the attendees on the origin and effects of the trauma the trafficked individual struggles with.  The Mending The Soul groups are also having a positive impact in the healing process, yet there is an overwhelming need for more volunteer facilitators.  The educational and spiritual training in this conference was worth so much more than the registration fee.  I highly recommend this to both the professional and layperson. I can’t wait for the next conference!
