Union Gospel Mission

About the Organization

Union Gospel Mission was founded in 1927 when 40 area churches came together seeking to minister to the homeless on the streets of Portland. From that beginning, Union Gospel Mission has been serving the homeless, the hopeless and those in need consistently since that first chapel service in 1928. Union Gospel Mission is home to "LifeChange," an innovative addiction recovery community serving men and women. Union Gospel Mission serves more than 170,000 meals annually to those in need and provides clothing, referrals, and spiritual support to people in need in the Portland area.

A news article, posted on September 3, 2012, explains the partnership between Union Gospel Mission and Called to Rescue. This joint effort will further help in the continuing fight against human trafficking.

How You Can Help

The Get Involved tab on the Union Gospel Mission site is the best way to connect to ways in which individuals or groups can support the ministry. Two new opportunities are through Fusion Plunge and Fusion Intern. Plunge is an opportunity for high school or college groups to come for a theologically-rooted, educational service experience. Intern is an internship program catered to college students.

Planned giving (a charitable gift in one’s overall estate or financial plan), volunteer (see site for details) or partner organization participation.
