The “More Than a Survivor” (MTAS) photo exhibit features 22 survivors of commercial sexual exploitation from the U.S. for their achievements beyond their experience as victims of sex trafficking. MTAS was produced by GEMS in New York, and has traveled to large cities around the county. Southern Oregon is the first rural community to host the exhibit, due to the sponsorship of local Rotary clubs. Survivor-leader Rebecca Bender – a Grants Pass High School graduate who met her trafficker on the University of Oregon campus before being sold for nearly six years – is featured as one of the 22 women in the MTAS campaign.
The exhibit is meant to be educational – what is trafficking and how do we protect our communities – and also a message of hope and inspiration for what great triumphs are possible out of any kind of trauma or trial in life.
