Shared Hope International

About The Organization

Shared Hope International (SHI) exists to prevent, rescue and restore women and children in crisis. They have gained a reputation for prompting legal and political reform against trafficking, and have expertise in restoring women and children worldwide.  They are also leaders in a worldwide effort to prevent and eradicate sex trafficking and slavery through education and public awareness.

  • Awareness and Prevention: SHI's prevention programs examine the conditions that allow women and children to be bought and sold and document the marketplaces of victimization around the world.  SHI strives to enhance awareness of modern day sexual slavery and to build international alliances to combat sex trafficking.
  • Bring Justice: Shared Hope is working in a number of states to support the development of targeted laws. The Protected Innocence Legislative Framework assures that a safe environment is created for children by prosecuting demand and the traffickers, identifying the child as the victim, and directing that services and safe shelter be provided for the victim.
  • Rescue: SHI's rescue programs are integrated into the work of local restoration centers. Through these partnerships they are able to successfully remove women and children from sexual exploitation.
  • Shelter and Aftercare: SHI's restoration programs are developed and operated by local partners, addressing both the immediate and long-term needs of each victim of trauma. Restoration services include residential facilities, medical and mental health care, education, job training and economic development programs.

How You Can Help

SHI is currently accepting volunteers Monday through Friday from 9 to 4.  Volunteer responsibilities at the Vancouver office include mailings, data entry, research, phoning, general office support and outside help with special events.  SHI encourages you to host your own event to educate others about sex trafficking.  Visit their website for educational materials and resources.  The SHI website has downloadable video links that can be used to raise awareness and motivate others in your community, church group, etc. to identify and fight against sex trafficking in the United States.
